SHE IS STILL ALIVE!

SHE IS STILL ALIVE!

-         Saptarshi Basu

A raindrop falls, hits the ground, disintegrates and is no more.
The last light of sunlight leaves with a disappointing face.

Imagine a home in the country
Imagine a garden, rose beds
Think of the sun in the flowers,
Imagine your children playing,
Carefree and happy.
Are the seams in your shirt straight?

Imagine a girl who wanted to go home...
Perhaps, just like you and me
And, as you sit now in you chair and read
She hasn't reached...she is no more.

I have heard of Auschwitz,
The Nazi Death camp,
Where smell of death hangs in the air
Where men, women, children were once burnt alive

Auschwitz is still alive,
In a country with garden and rose beds,
In a country with sun in the flowers,

In a country where she is still alive
To meet a million death.
